Tekken 8 has confirmed the return of two beloved characters by fans, both of whom have been introduced with a completely new and trendy look. These characters were announced after showcasing all the fighters previously introduced in the story and gameplay trailer of Tekken 8 at The Game Awards 2022 by Bandai Namco. These new character gameplay trailers continue to further reveal the starting roster, whether returning or completely new.

The returning characters for Tekken 8 are not limited to familiar faces like Paul Phoenix, Jack-8, or even the wrestling luchador King. The first of these new trailers focuses on Ling Xiaoyu, who was first introduced in Tekken 3 and became one of the veterans frequently entering the series alongside her close friend and potential love interest, Jin Kazama. Bandai Namco has announced two of the returning characters, one being a new addition from Tekken 7.

The first of these returning characters is the Wing Chun master Leroy Smith, who had so many fans that even the rapper T-Pain cosplayed as Leroy Smith before he was included as a DLC fighter in Tekken 7. In Tekken 8, he is referred to as the “Grandmaster of the Drop,” and no expense has been spared in his flashy moves, with some saying his appearance in this game is even better than before. He has received special praise for his use of the famous “One-Inch Punch” technique, which is also well-known in the art of anger.

The other returning character is Asuka Kazama, a character first introduced as Jin Kazama’s cousin in Tekken 5. She was introduced as an important character who could solve problems related to the Devil Gene and the Mishima bloodline, but as the games progressed, her importance faded. Like her predecessor Jun Kazama, she uses the same martial arts style practiced by her family, which can be clearly seen from the number of moves shared among the three Kazamas. With Jun Kazama’s return to the playable roster ten years later, it marks the first time that all three known members of the Kazama family are included in the main Tekken game roster.
