It’s no secret that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the most popular game on Steam, but the amount of money fans spend on it is difficult to comprehend. According to a new estimate by Dexerto, Counter-Strike players spent more than $100 million on opening cases in March 2023.
Using data from the CS:GO Case Tracker, an external source found that players opened 39.5 million cases in March. Case prices vary from less than $1 to over $60, and each requires a $2.50 key to be opened. Considering all this, even a conservative estimate of less than $100 million remains a significant amount. In comparison, the same data shows that players opened 27.7 million cases in February, a 42.5% increase by the month.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been at the top of the Steam player rankings for years, but the surprise announcement of Counter-Strike 2 has taken its popularity to new heights. Described as a complete overhaul of the game, Counter-Strike 2 will be a free upgrade to Global Offensive, with all items transferred. Confirmed changes include higher server tick rates, improved smoke grenades, and better visuals. It is set to be released in summer 2023.
